About The Event
“Has texting turned us into the flakiest generation? How is it as easy to order a date online as it is to purchase a chicken burger?”
Lobster is a dynamic, multi-media, comedic expose of the perils of love and life in the digital age. In 30 years the cultural change in pursuing romance has been phenomenal. Today, overwhelmed by technology, we are slowly losing sight of what human connection truly is.
Armed with the latest dating apps and sites, Polly bounces between dreadful dates and exciting encounters, tinder swiping, text messaging, dick pics, pressuring parents and amazingly supportive friends, through a tightly executed, perfectly balanced mix of monologue, multi-roling, projection, music, movement, lights and sound alongside a juxtaposition of artistic styles and content. The range of media creates a high energy, complex portrayal of the social and emotional juggling modern romantics undertake.
Using actual, real life experiences, Lobster explores and unpicks the deeper, quite brutal side of both love and life, ultimately challenging our preconceptions of women and dating, sex and autonomy. Lobster meets this phase of third wave feminism perfectly. With campaigns such as #TimesUp taking rightful focus in today’s media, Lobster scrutinises the challenging experiences faced by women in the early 21st century with careful and incisive observation.
